Port Angeles and the Olympic Peninsula area offers a wide variety of activities. You will always find something to do here, from hiking to biking, kayaking, golfing, swimming, tennis, beach-combing and even antique shopping. If you enjoy dining out, you will find several restaurants within easy walking distance of the cottage. The Children’s Dream Playground and a large tree covered park are near by for your enjoyment. There are several public use tennis courts about a block away, as well as a skateboard park and baseball fields. There is even a YMCA located just across the street.
This prime location makes Mullan Cottage the perfect starting point for doing a variety of exhilarating day trips. So, just hop in the car and visit the beauty of Hurricane Ridge, the Hoh Rain Forest, Forks, Neah Bay, or Cape Flattery.
You can even spend a day discovering another country! Victoria, B.C., Canada is only a 90 minute ferry ride away via the Coho Ferry. So, don’t forget to bring your passport. Once you set foot on foreign soil, you will find plenty to see and do. You can stroll through Butchart Gardens, or soak in some history as you explore the Royal B.C. Museum.

What is the Olympic Discovery Trail?
The Olympic Discovery Trail (ODT) traverses approximately 130 miles of lowlands, bordered on the south by the beautiful Olympic Mountain Range and on the north by the stunning shores of the Strait of Juan de Fuca. It starts in the Victorian seaport of Port Townsend and spans approximately 130 miles east to west, ending on the shores of the Pacific Ocean. The trail is a wide, paved pathway designed to for cycling, hiking, running and walking. There is a 4’ shoulder for equestrians where appropriate. The Olympic Discovery Trail hosts the annual North Olympic Discovery Marathon and Half-Marathon.
The Port Angeles Farmers Market is your best source for locally grown food and local crafts on the Olympic Peninsula. There is a great representation of local farms featuring organically and sustainably grown vegetables and fruits. Many local artisans also make the Market their home featuring beautiful handmade art and crafts.

The Feiro Marine Life Center is a public aquarium located on the Port Angeles City Pier. Here you actually get to touch a variety of starfish, anemones, fish, etc. The center also provides educational programs in the community

Tennis Courts – There are 5 tennis courts that are open to the public located at Erickson Park 300 S Race Street.

Hiking & Biking –
Downtown there is the 6.5 mile Waterfront Trail. This trail connects with the Olympic Discovery Trail (mentioned above). Please check out the ODT website by clicking on the banner above for maps and trail details.
Foothills Trail (South of Port Angeles off Heart of the Hills Road) This is a 9 mile Department of Natural Resources trail. This trail is more suited to the experienced mountain biker.

Mullan Cottage is located about 17 miles from the Olympic National Park Hurricane Ridge Visitors Center. From here there are many wondrous things to explore, Sol Duc Hot Springs, Lake Crescent, Hurricane Ridge, and the Hoh Rainforest.
Victoria, British Columbia
Butchart Gardens is one of Victoria’s premiere attractions. These internationally acclaimed botanical gardens are organized around themes, such as the Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden and the Italian Garden. The gardens are gorgeous any time of the year. There are two restaurants located on the grounds, so you can enjoy a bite to eat after strolling through the gardens. During your visit you can even enjoy afternoon or high tea. The tea offerings are different times depending on the season.
The Royal BC Museum is a place of discovery. Through unique galleries, the Museum showcases the human and natural history of British Columbia and temporary exhibits from other countries and cultures. Authentic artifacts and specimens are displayed in highly realistic settings, giving visitors the experience of another time and place. Its permanent exhibits include the First People’s, Modern History and Natural History Gallery.
